Summary: Audrey Mehler's documentary, The Yellow Pear, is a beautiful portrait of artist Gu Xiong who left China in the wake of the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, and came to Canada to make a new home. As an artist and activist, Gu's life was increasingly in danger. Through close Canadian contacts made as a student at the Banff Centre for Fine Arts, he escaped from China, leaving his wife and child behind.
